John grew up playing soccer on the Jersey Shore and first started coaching during summers in high school and college. That experience instilled a deep passion for working with youth and having a positive impact on their lives. For the past 25 years he has worked in youth development as a teacher, program director, education researcher, and nonprofit leader. He holds a master’s degree in education from Rutgers University, focusing his research on the informal learning and development that happens outside of school, specifically in after-school sports and recreational programs. John is an active member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). John played varsity soccer at Carnegie Mellon University and has coached soccer at various levels, winning a high school state championship. He has three young kids that he is excited to coach on Soccer Island! John was drawn to Soccer Shots because of the curriculum’s clear focus on character development and their robust coach training program, and he is excited to bring this quality programming to his own community in West Essex County NJ!
